Tending Time, finding grace

Updated: Apr 8

Reflections from the White Picket Farm LLC gardens.

It is often said that time changes things, but really, we change with time. I watch my grandchildren who are in awe over small things we once enjoyed, but somehow stopped noticing.

Then time comes full circle, and in our more mature years we begin to notice the things of our childhood and once again become curious and respectful of nature. We hear the birds that were muted by the noise of our hectic schedules. We notice the butterflies and the hairy nature of the chubby bumblebees. We slow down and appreciate, because we recognize the value of time. We call time a thief, but in reality it is a gift. We choose how to use it.

We are all given the same number of minutes in a day, but we are not given the same number of days. We cannot go back in time and change choices or consequences. We can use time today differently, we can slow down to notice the wonders of God’s gifts even during trials.

I am so very thankful for the albeit brief rain shower this morning. I can use a few hours of respite from watering and spend the time appreciating the small things.

“You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.” - Isaiah 55:12, NIV

This passage was to give hope for the people of Israel who were in exile during this period. It was to show that God and his power and majesty will be revealed in new ways that even the nature will praise and worship Him.
